South African Library for the Blind

The South African Library for the
Blind is a Schedule 3A Public Entity of the Department
of Arts and Culture, which is mandated by law to
provide a library and information service, free of
charge, to blind South Africans on a national basis
and to publish books in accessible formats to enable
blind people to read. Our current book formats are
Braille and Audio. With the imminent demise of audio
cassette, Daisy Technology is meant to protect the
South African produced audio book collection by
permitting it to be digitised in a format which will
ensure maximum (random) accessibility to all text
